Community Involvement
I have been an active member in the Sudbury community for over 30 years taking some time out to obtain my law degree (LL.B.) in 1983 and to complete my Bachelor of Arts degree in Native Studies in 1999. My community involvement ranges from being President of a community park and playground association to being Vice President and board member of the Sudbury Regional Development Board (SRDC). For a number of years I was also a Board member to the Northern Development Council (NDC) in Sudbury and I received a Commendation Award from the Premier of the Province of Ontario for my services on that board.
Additionally I have acted as the founding Chair for the Valley East Economic Development Committee and spear headed a strategic plan for this community of approximately 25,000 people, which was partially implemented until the City of Valley East was amalgamated into the City of Greater Sudbury.
During the last 30 years, I have also participated in many health organizations such as the cancer society, the lung association and the kidney foundation. I was a Board member with the Laurentian Hospital Foundation for approximately 5 years and I continue to be committed to the effective delivery of health services to Northern Ontarians.
I have extensive political experience at the municipal, provincial and federal levels including participating in determining policy issues, acting as political advisor, acting as Chief Financial Officer, drafting political campaign materials and participating in numerous elections at all levels.
